How the route runs

The line starts in Abu Dhabi at Mohamed bin Zayed City and heads north east to Dubai's Al Yalayis, a journey of about 64 minutes. It then continues through Sharjah to the east coast. Al Dhaid to Fujairah takes about 25 minutes, and Abu Dhabi to Fujairah takes about 105 minutes. The Al Dhafra stations sit to the west and south west of Abu Dhabi, towards Liwa and the Saudi border.

Dubai: Al Yalayis and what comes next

Al Yalayis is at Jumeirah Golf Estates, near Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311). A covered footbridge of roughly 400 metres, about a five-minute walk, links it to the Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro station on the Red Line. The RTA's F38 feeder bus runs from the Metro station to Dubai Production City and Dubai Sports City, with fares from AED 3. Taxis and Bolt wait at the station, and parking is AED 5 an hour after the first free 15 minutes.

Driving times from Al Yalayis

Expo City 10 minutes, Jumeirah Village Circle 17, Dubai Hills 18, Palm Jumeirah 22, Mall of the Emirates 25, Al Maktoum International Airport 27, Dubai Mall 29 and Dubai International Airport 40 (Khaleej Times).

What Dubai has and has not announced

The RTA's Rail Agency chief told The National that one future station is planned at Meydan, integrated with the Gold Line. No opening date or exact location has been given. Separately, the RTA has named Al Jaddaf and Al Maktoum International Airport as stations for a high-speed Abu Dhabi to Dubai line, a different project with no timeline published. Nothing at Al Jaddaf is open or dated.

Abu Dhabi: one station, several ways into town

Mohamed bin Zayed City station serves Mussafah, Zayed City, Shakhbout City and Bani Yas. Etihad Rail runs AED 10 shuttles, booked with your ticket, to ADNOC headquarters and the Corniche, ADNEC and Al Rawdah, and Reem Mall and Reem Island, from 7am to 9pm. Public buses MR1 and MR2 reach the Main Bus Station and Al Zahiyah Bus Station.

Yas Island has no shuttle. By taxi it is 30 to 40 minutes for roughly AED 50 to 70. Reem Mall is 25 to 30 minutes and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque 15 to 20 minutes (The National). A direct link to the airport has been mentioned but not detailed.

Sharjah and Fujairah

Al Dhaid has three bus routes (ER1, ER2, ER3), taxis, and 26 free parking spaces. Fujairah's station has a car park, car rental and a taxi rank. University City, in Sharjah city, opens on 30 March 2027.

Still unconfirmed

  • Opening dates for Meydan, Al Jaddaf and Al Maktoum Airport.
  • Any Etihad Rail station on Reem Island, Yas Island or in central Abu Dhabi.
  • Al Faya and Mezairaa. Some guides list them, but we found no passenger opening date for either.

What it means for property

Jumeirah Golf Estates now has Metro and rail in one place. Be careful reading too much into the rest. Dubai prices are down about 3 to 4% year on year in 2026, so a station is no guarantee of gains. Our main Etihad Rail guide covers fares and price movement near stations. For context, see how the Dubai Metro affected nearby real estate, which infrastructure projects benefit investors, and where capital appreciation is building. If you are weighing a purchase near a station, book a consultation and we will give you a straight view.
